The Col de Joux-Plane is the pass which links Samoëns to
Morzine
through mountains between Mont-Blanc and Lake Geneva. The road became
gravely during summer 1968 and paved in october 1969. The different
road
variations on the Samoëns side of the pass, fit closely the relief
shapes: so, the bottom of the pass is very steep, farther, the road
serves
small hamlets scattered on the sun side shelves, the slope may be
locally
soft before getting steep drastically (details).
The property of the pass is its slope very irregular: racing cyclists
who are pure climbers build there their win, cyclists who are mighty on
flat roads do not find their pace. All of them leaves in the air the
magic
of the Tour de France.
Trucks are not allowed to take Joux-Plane, the road does not know
neither
noise nor big Diesel smoke, it remains narrow and climbs among meadows
without a hairpin bend or a turn looking like another. Above 1000-meter
altitude, the Mont-Blanc massif appears, royal, with its best profile.
